Introducing Chris Daughtry...

Chris and StewartI'd like you all to meet someone you're going to hear a lot more of in the coming months. Meet Chris Daughtry, a local vocalist who is about to go GLOBAL, thanks to his blistering pipes and a little juggernaut named American Idol. If you watch FOX at all, you've already seen him rendering the celebrity judges speechless with his soaring voice. Quite simply, this dude can wail.

I first met him on a September afternoon here in Greensboro, days before he flew to Denver for a chance to audition for Paula, Randy and Simon. Shannon Smith and I sat him down for a quick interview in downtown Greensboro before wandering over to a nearby parking lot where he could sing for my camera. When he opened up his throat, Shannon and I could hardly believe what came out. Chris' voice sounds like he just gargled broken glass and chased it with the finest of Kentucky bourbons. Hell, I still wanna buy him a drink, then make him sing my favorite Alice in Chains songs.

When we left Chris that day, Shannon and I agreed he had what it took to break through the din of American Idol wannabes. Whether he'll make it anywhere near the end of this schlocky yet oddly endearing talent contest depends on too many factors to list here. But one thing's for sure: Chris Daughtry's world is about to change. I sure hope he's ready.
Visit lenslinger.com. for more stories of clamoring on the edge of disaster and pageantry. For sixteen years I've covered everything from murders to hurricanes to more City Council meetings than I can remember. Check for daily dispatches from the ludicrous news front at lenslinger.com. C'mon, do a photog a favor...

UPDATE! To no one's surprise, Chris made the final 24. Check out our Hollywood chat with America's favorite bald rocker dude...

UPDATE!! Chris rocked the house last night with 'Wanted Dead or Alive', showing the rest of America just a little of what he's capable of. Look for more vocal virtuosity from him in the coming weeks. Until then, read how this silliest of talent shows is taking over my life! Or, check out my many sordid encounters with Idols past. Don't say I didn't warn ya...

DSCF0002UPDATE!!! Okay, so Chris just poured on the Fuel and even Simon liked it. After interviewing his old bandmates last night, I see why. Chris has been at this a long time, slogging through the nightclub circuit with potent, original material. The remaining three members of 'Absent Element' struck me as righteous dudes and they all wish him well. They probably also hope he'll drag them along for the ride, but that's not important right now. What IS important is how everyone I interview from Chris' past raves about what a inherently great guy he is. That makes cheering for him all the easier. Next week I'm jetting back to Hollywood for a red carpet event with the final 12 contestants and I'll be sure to tell him how many fans he has here at Viewfinder BLUES. Check back for continuous updates! Seachrest...OUT!

(Did I just say that?)

UPDATE!!!!!

Shannon Smith & Chris DaughtryJust returned from a red event with the Final 12 Contestants of American Idol! Not only did I interview Chris at length, but I huddled with him for a few minutes at the after-party. He's doing well, checking out this site and appreciative of his on-line admirers.
"Everybody that’s doing that, writing about me, I’m reading it. Thank you so much and thank you for voting for me."
Chris was on cloud nine when we saw him the other night, as barely an hour had passed since he'd been named to the Final 12. He promises a blistering take on the upcoming Stevie Wonder theme night and confirms trhe rumors that Fuel offered him the lead singer gig after they heard him cover their song.
"They called me yesterday. It’s crazy when you got a band that you’ve been listening to ever since you were like 14 and you respect them as songwriters and they inspire you as a musician and they’re calling you offering you the job as their singer..."
Chris Daughtry Answers UpIt's been a big week for our little bald rocker dude. Follow this link to read more, and check out the rest of my extensive American Idol Final 12 Red Carpet Coverage. Here's hoping Chris gets through any upcoming show-tunes...

UPDATE!!!!! What the hell just happened? Chris got booted. Read my thoughts on this most unexpected development...

Chris Daughtry, Soul Patrol!UPDATE!!!!!! Having just returned from the American Idol finale, I'm just now shaking the body glitter from my microphones. While I'm at it, I'm also doling out photos and details out on my blog. Check out my multi-part series on the last two 18 hour days of American Idol Season 5. Comprehensive web coverage of continuous team smotherage, TV style. Hoo Boy! Now let's talk about Chris. He seemed supremely stoked the night of Taylor Hick's final ascension to American Idol. "I love him like a brother." he said.

DSCF0105One gets the impression there is little if any ill will among the finalists (male, anyway). All the finalists raved about Hicks rightful place as Idol, in such a way that's rather convincing. As for Chris, he's excited about the future, as any new household name should be. I've gotta think the crowds at this summer's upcoming Idol tour will screech ther loudest when our favorite bald dude takes the stage. After that, the sky's the limit, with rock god status the most likely destination. Still, Chris was playing it fairly humble the night of American Idol's triumphant finale.

Chris Daughtry Up Close"I'm can only hope this isn't the end for me...", he said, gazing out at the rabid fans and adoring press. But we know better, and judging from the look on his face, so does he. At some point, Chris will return to central North Carolina, but globally known singers usually don't spend too much time kickin' it around the Piedmont. If I see him on any upcoming swing-throughs, I'll post something about it here. Until then, thanks for, reading, check out lenslinger.com for other varied fare, and be sure to check out the incredible string of reader comments nestled below. Seeya!

LONG TIME, NO UPDATE!!!!!! But now there's a reason to. Chris just dropped by the studio, plowed through an acoustic version of "It's Not Over" and even did the weather. Check out my latest entry and follow the links. Also, check back soon, as fellow blogging photog Chris Weaver caught up with Daughtry as he recorded tracks in L.A. Weaver will soon post photos, details and video links and I'll update it at Viewfinder BLUES. Here's looking forward to the CD!

Chris is not only a fabulous musician and vocalist he is a wonderful human being. He is my grandson, Griffin's, step dad. When my son passed away Chris wrote a song for him thanking him for what he left Chris, a beautiful 4 1/2 year old boy. Chris wrote how grateful he was that Griffin is his now, but sorry he did not get to say goodbye to my son...none of us did. With love and gratitude that Chris and his wife Deanna are the BEST parents a child could ever have.

Anonymous said...

He can be hot and married. Being married, a loving father and husband makes him beautiful which is transcendent and far more than hot.
My wish is that there never is a divorce...that your son and any future children are happy and healthy. Thank you for sharing your voice with us. I do enjoy it. I am ferociously picky and particular about what I think is good. Simon is a pussy cat compared to me.

When I saw Chris perform The First Cut is the Deepest, I knew I was watching a star! He rocks!!! He's humble and poised! I was moved by that performance more than I have ever been moved by a performing artist and that's the truth!!! I picked him then as the winner.

Anonymous said...

He is on his way to being a star but I remember him back in his Charlottesville, VA days, working with me at Lowes in the lumber department and then selling me a Kirby vacuum. Love, Mary

Chris seems like an amazing human being, as well as an amazingly talented singer. Here's hoping America recognizes his wonderful gift by voting him the next American Idol. He deserves every good thing that comes his way from this, both due to his voice and due to the wonderful person he seems to be.

Doesn't hurt that he's sexy as hell, too!!!

I am in love with Chris. I said he was my favourite from the beginning. I couldn't get over it when he sang Fuel tonight. It was AMAZING.

Anonymous said...

Awesome!!! Had to rewind and watch him like 50 times. Can't wait till next week to hear what he sings next.

Anonymous said...

Chris, heard you tonight on Idol! YOu are fabulous! Where can I buy your music tonight! I'm totally lifted!

Anonymous said...

Someone from the entertainment world should just grab this guy right now and give him a contract. His performances last week and this are so far above every male and female on that show that there is no need for any more competition. I taped the show last night and first thing this morning I played that performance for my husband. He was stunned. He said this guy is the best he has ever seen on Idol, hands down. Chris has our votes. I can't imagine him not winning it all!

Anonymous said...

OH MY GOSH!

My 9 year old daughter and i sat down to watch tv lastnight and she wanted to watch American Idol. I had not watched it in several years but complied with her wishes. The show was okay and we were enjoying it and THEN this guy named Chris got up there to sing AND BLEW US AWAY! My husband and son came into the room when they heard him singing to see who was on tv and were JUST SHOCKED! This guy does NOT even belong on American Idol he is WAYYYYYYYYY beyond that show! He should already be on the radio!!!!!!! I am a 34 year old legal secretary and i have found my new obsession! I immediatly called every friend i had after the show and asked them if they saw the "vin diesel look alike" guy on american idol! They were all freaking out about how AWESOME HE IS!!!! The guy is the TOTAL PACKAGE. All the famous rock stars that can sing don't even compare to this guy. He can sing and he is absolutely GORGEOUS, more than you can say about our normal rock stars! I have spent my entire morning at work looking up information about him and trying to download any music i can find of his! The fact that he is such an awesome husband and father makes him EVEN more sexy! All i can say is he is in for a heck of a ride and hopefully all his fame and fortune to come won't disrupt the life he has with his family. HE WILL WIN THIS SHOW HANDS DOWN. NO other contestant even comes CLOSE to this guy.

Anonymous said...

THIS GUY IS UNREAL. HE IS GOING TO BRING TO AMERICAN IDOL SOMETHING THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE. HE GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND ANY CONTESTANT OR WINNER THAT THEY HAVE EVER CAME ACROSS. THE RATINGS ON THIS SHOW WILL BE BIGGER THIS SEASON THAN FROM ANY OTHER SEASON BEFORE JUST BECAUSE PEOPLE WANT TO WATCH THIS GUY PERFORM. HE IS GENUINE. I FEEL SORRY FOR THE OTHER CONTESTANTS BEING COMPARED TO THIS GUY. HE STEALS THE SHOW EVERY TIME. SOMEONE NEEDS TO GRAB THIS GUY UP NOW BECAUSE HE WILL BE WORTH A FORTUNE BEFORE THE SHOW EVEN CLOSES.

Anonymous said...

DAMN. THIS GUY IS UNBELIEVABLE. EVEN IF HE WASN'T THE SEXIEST FREAKING GUY ON THE PLANET, PEOPLE WOULD STILL WANT TO HEAR HIM SING. THE DUDE CAN BLOW! HE IS GOING TO BE VERY FAMOUS, VERY QUICK. I WOULD LIKE SOMEONE TO POST SOMETHING ABOUT HIS LIFE STORY, PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW THAT STUFF AND IT'S NO WHERE TO BE FOUND ON THE NET.

Anonymous said...

I am so glad to hear that someone else is watching his performance of Fuel over and over. I drove my husband CRAZY last night watching him. He says it's turning into obsession! haha He is soooooo HOT!! I just can't believe that voice! I can't wait to watch tonight! I have been thinking about him all day!!!! AAAGGGHHH!!!
I sure hope all the people that love him get behind him and actually vote. He should win hands down talent wise, but the votes can change the outcome of who's the best. We've all seen it happen before! Go Chris!

Anonymous said...

AMAZING, totally, utterly blew me away. Such presence he is already a star. Hope he never lets it get to his head as he seems like a wonderful person.

Anonymous said...

No need to go on with the show, Chris is The Idol hands-down. Chris - please protect your family from the fall-out that fame brings. You deserve the best!

Anonymous said...

Okay I think the show can end and Yea!! Chris is the winner! Come on now..that performance last night was off the hook!!! I swear I got goose bumps just hearing him and of course checking him out! He is sooo hot!! I know for a a fact that Chris is going to make it! Chris: I think your a sooo sexy and you can rock that mic!!! I am totally voting for you..you derserve it baby!

Anonymous said...

This guy is absolutely amazing...he's the only reason I'm watching this show. Clearly the class of the group and he'd better win the damned thing. It's about time they picked a rocker.

Man, Chris Daughtry is THE TRUTH! I have never been as impressed with any American Idol contestant as I have with him. His voice is powerful, moving, and absolutely a joy to listen to.

I loved him from the beginning! He is the next American Idol.

Chris is absolutely amazing. I was totally in love with vin diesel...move over vin..there's a new hottie in town!!! WHAT A VOICE on this new American Idol. He is exactly what Simon and the judges said from the getgo....in a class of his own. I don't even know how the other contestants must feel, knowing that this man is blowing them all away! ROCK ON CHRIS!!!!

Anonymous said...

I am SOOOO glad that other people have watched him sing again and again. I have just watched it at least 100 times and it's the middle of the night now. I felt ridiculous until I looked him up on the internet and read other comments! UK

Anonymous said...

Finally, someone worthy of the status, American Idol. Chris totally nailed Hemorrhage. I was listening to Shine Down's "Save Me" this morning, and I'm sure he could rip that one to shreds as well. He restores my faith that someone is out there to fill the shoes of Ozzie, Plant, Gilliam, et al, who have come before him. (Awright, they're all UK, but you get what I mean) Rock On!

Anonymous said...

Ok, Daughtry can definitely wail, but what's he going to do to show his range? Most rockers come off schlocky or cheesy with ballads, notable exceptions being Seeger's "Turn the Page" or Tyler's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing". I'm looking forward to seeing if Chris is up to the challenge.

Anonymous said...

Chris was my favorite from the beginning! The way he spoke about his wife and family. Thats a good guy, I thought.
The judges comments on Thursday could not have been any more accurate. We'll be seeing him for years to come and I can't wait.
And who says nice guys finished last?
Not this guy!

Way to go Chris!

Chris, you are truly phenomenal. What makes you so unique and special is that you really appeal to a universal audience. Even people that aren't into rock music per se, LOVE YOU, and that's amazing. You're amazing. And from what I've read, you're not only a great musician, but also a geat husband and father. You really do have the total package.

I'm counting on America to keep piling in those votes for you since I cannot vote up here in Canada, unfortunately. I really think you deserve to win this competition!

Keep up the great work. :)

CAN'T WAIT TO WATCH CHRIS TONIGHT ON AMERICAN IDOL! THE GUY IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING AND SEEMS LIKE A VERY GENUINE, KIND PERSON. I HEARD THAT FUEL NEEDS A LEAD SINGER, AND OFFERED IT TO HIM, DOES ANYONE ELSE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS? HE IS AWESOME AND WILL WIN THIS THING HANDS DOWN.

I'm just some old dude who knew Chris Daughtry was the real thing the first time I heard him. I've been trying to find an E-mail address for him, because I have some song suggestions for him that I think he could really leverage! But I cant, so maybe some of you folks who are closer to him can get the word to him.

This gives my age away, but here are some Dan Fogelberg songs that would be perfect for him. They are: "As the Raven Flies", "Tell Me to My Face", and "The Power of Gold." There are also a ton of Jackson Browne songs that also rock.

I would really appreciate it if anybody could get this information to him. Thanks!

I think that Chris has done really great. His humility and love for his family is what made me a fan. I hope and pray that he doesn't loose sight of what is important in all this commotion. His Faith and Family! Good luck!!

I love this guy! I picked him as the winner the moment I saw the audition...even though Simon tried to say "no" to him at the audition! I bet Simon is eating those words now! Chris is sexy, the best singer EVER, and such a great guy. I can't wait to see what he does next! NC is pulling for you Chris!

It’s great to come across a community of people who have come together to support each other because they love Chris Daughtry’s passion and energy as much as I do. Like you and everyone who enjoyed this article, Chris Daughtry has been a real inspiration to me. When I first heard him sing Wanted Dead or Alive, I felt absolutely amazed by his talent and got chills hearing his voice. When I heard him do Hemorrhage, my admiration for his talent took on a new level and I felt so much passion and energy about his performances that I actually had to look within and understand more what this response was all about.

I happen to be a personal (life) coach, consultant and trainer who helps people come to an understanding of situations just like this and so I coached myself on what Chris’ performances inspired in me. This coaching led to a great deal of new awareness and insight about myself and my mission in life and ultimately led me to write an essay that explains how I feel about Chris and what I learned about myself in the process. We all know that Chris is a tremendous musician. But more than just a musical talent, Chris Daughtry represents to me a person who has found his true calling and is fearless about freely expressing his authentic self without compromise. This is a crucial lesson for myself and everyone else, and I’d really love to share my thoughts on this with Chris’ fans everywhere.

My essay can be read at http://www.systemsthinker.com/writingscreative/essays/americanidol.shtml and I wondered if you could envision helping to pass along this essay to others by posting this letter on forums and placing a link to my essay on your websites. I hope that my essay shows another side of the Chris Daughtry story that some may not have thought about and that can impact people even more strongly than his music alone. Hopefully in the future, people will look back on Chris’ run on American Idol not just as a great musical showing, but as something that touched their lives and I hope they will look back on reading my essay as part of that.

My life and my company, Emergent Associates, LLC, are devoted to empowering and supporting people with the experiences and tools that they need to find, develop and nurture their best talents and potentials to achieve greater success in their lives just as Chris is doing. I hope by sharing this letter and this essay with your friends, family and readers, you might help them to do just this.

Best,

I seriously tear up every week listening to Chris sing. He melts my heart, I could listen to him all day. Chris is bringing it down! Even if he doesn't win (but I have No doubts he will), he's definately going to be HUGE. I love you Chris, you light up my life every Tuesday night! =)

Chris is by far the best singer that American Idol has ever had. He keeps it real and he doesn't put on a act just to impress the audiance and judges. He has pure talent and every time I hear him sing I get chills. Not to mention that I sigh and blush! Like last night when he sang the Bryan Adams song... yeah I think I fell in love! :-)
There is no doubt in my mind that Chris will win Idol this year and if he doesn't, I know for a fact that we won't be seeing the last of him. I can't wait for him to make his own CD so I can buy it!!

Anonymous said...

I really enjoy listening to Chris--I watch every week to see his performance. If he happens to get eliminated, I will stop watching because I will be let down that the most talented contestant did not win. I hope that you don't have to be a girl in your early 20's with breasts hanging out to win. It needs to be about the talent. A bonus is that he is hot-the talent should be the most important fact.

Hey Ya'll, I emailed this to Chris' Band but no sure if they actually check the one on the website. So thought this is another way to get it to Chris' eyes!

Hi Guys,
Please read this and print it to give to Chris! Its from a post on chrisdaughtryrocks.com from a lady who's husband was hospitalized the week he sang I Walk the Line. He is now on life support! This lady wants nothing more then to have Chris know listening to him sing is getting her thru everything! Please guys!!!
Thank You Very Much,
Cat aka Snuggles

Posted: Mon Apr 03, 2006 8:58 pm Post subject: I walk the line

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Because I know of no other way to thank Chris for his performance of I Walk the Line, I will post here and hope somehow he sees it.
I am 49 years old, married 18 years to a wonderful man who was hospitalized the Friday after Chris sang this song on Idol. Not knowing how serious my husbands condition was, I came home and enjoyed some quiet time that allowed me to search a P2P for a mp3 of this performance. I then burned this song onto a cd 16 times so I wouldn't wear the disc out listening over and over. The next morning I recieved the news my husband had to be put on life-support. I left for the hospital with this cd in hand. I but it in my car player and didn't take it out for 4 days. My husband is still on life-support and his condition is still up in the air, but time has helped me return to some daily routines. Ijust wanted Chris to know what a tremendous part he and his song played in helping me deal with this situation mentally. Though my husband hasn't awakened since Saturday before last, I have been able to tell him what is in my heart every time I sing this song with Chris
I have since learned the song was recorded by Live before Chris sang it. I now have the song by them as well, but I must admit it doesn't have the same heart as when Chris performs it. When Chris records his first cd I hope he considers adding this song to the list. It would be worth the price for it alone.

Rock on Chris

Go Chris! I was sooooo surprised when you came out tonight singing Renegade by Stix. After every rockin performance, I can't help but think of all the great old rock songs I would love to hear you sing. You owe your wife BIG for suggesting it! Hey, how about some Led Zepp or Van Halen, or maybe even some Alice/Chains. Keep up the good work...you're doing great. Sure you'll surpass Kelly's (season1?) success when it's all said and done.
Oh - Just thought of another one, how about Rock and Roll All Night by Kiss. Oh man, that would KILL!

"Wow" is all I have to say. Not only do I have a major crush on Chris for being the hottest, most handsome, sweetest and good-hearted person that he shows of being, I have a crush on his voice and how great of a singer he is too. I am 39 years old and haven't have a crush on a singer or TV celeb like this since John Stamos back in the General Hospital days LOL. I am so a fan right now and cannot wait until he hits it big! He is definitely going somewhere with that voice of his (and those eyes---sorry Deanna. You are one lucky woman.) Not only is he a good entertainer, he seems to be just a down-right great guy! I am a single mom and it totally tugged on my heart strings knowing that, at only 25, he took on the responsiblity of being a DAD to children that aren't even his. He got me right then and there!!! Then when I heard his voice and saw how cute he was, well, I was caught--hook, line and sinker! Best of luck to you Chris. You are definitely Chicago's AMERICAN IDOL!!!!!!!! You rock and I know you'll keep on rockin'.

I am in total shock right now! I can't believe Chris got voted off the show, me and my husband both thought 100% that he was going to win! And i listen to country , but as soon as i heard chris, i was just totally impressed. He's exactly what america needed, and i cant believe the top three are not even close to being as good as chris! I know every one has their own taste, but im 25 and i can't imagine anyone wanting to listen to the kind of music that the others are going to come out with on their CD? Oh well, i know i shouldnt be sad, we know Chris is going to make it big anyway. Just keep it real Chris, and know you will do great. I just cant wait to buy your first CD, ~good luck to you and your family,

Anonymous said...

I am in shock. If America would shut their eyes and just listen to the songs, Chris is by far the superior singer. He has the best voice by far, he is the most professional on stage and should have won the competition. What on earth was America thinking voting for Elliot above Chris? Now it's almost not worth it to even watch. Let's everyone support Chris by voting for Kat and get Taylor off. Just because he dances like a reject he should not win. I will definitely by Chris's CD the day it comes out. Can you honestly imagine the remaining three selling a CD that's worth listening to? Maybe Kat ok. Darn! I am still just stunned. Please tell me what the voters are seeing in Taylor? Really? It's a really sad day.

Anonymous said...

Wow...I can't believe Chris was voted off. I had to hit my redial button a ton of times to get thru...I assumed it was because everyone else was voting for him.

Chris you are a true rocker and will be successful when you put out a CD. I can't wait to hear what you produce...get out there and make some muzak!

Anonymous said...

Hey Chris,
We were so sad tonight--tears were shed by my nine-year-old son. Chris, not only do you have an incredibly exciting vocal sound (and you always sing in tune!), you also sing with heart. That means you project an emotional understanding of the lyrics and the music, and in that way are always giving a gift to the audience. The other contestants are caught up in a self-conscious narcissistic process designed only to win our admiration, not to move us. That producer was right when he said Kat often forgets about the meaning of the lyrics. She projects something like, "Aren't I special because I'm so cute and have such a great voice?" Something similar could be said of Taylor, who's extremely disconnected from the lyrics and the audience. He doesn't even look at us during all of that wacky dancing. It was fun the first time, but by now he's a tiresome one trick pony. Elliot is also disconnected most of the time (tho he's had a few sincere moments). Worried about how hoarse he's sounding lately. Anyway, you are an artist with the ability to move us, so your talent will last. We'll be listening.

I'm completely and utterly dumbfounded. I knew tonight would be hard because we were now down to the four I really liked. But never in my wildest dreams did I imagine Chris would be voted off. He was a shoe in for the finale. I'm a huge American Idol fan.....but I gotta say, I'm a bigger Chris Daughtry fan.....and I'm not sure I'll be back next Tuesday to see who's next to go. All day I've been yawning for lack of oxygen, a nervous wreck about who would go. And I kept saying (out loud), "If Chris goes tonight, I don't know what I'll do". What does that mean? I don't know.......but I never actually thought it possible. I think I'm going to stay home from work tomorrow and wallow in the misery......A day to honor the true American Idol. Chris, if you're reading this......It was a fluke, my friend....nobody ever expected you to go, so maybe they weren't as aggressive as they should've been calling in. This does not represent the true American public. YOU ARE A STAR!!!! The Kennedys love you, Chris!! God blessed you with an amazing gift....and He WILL bless you for the integrity you bring with it....YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!!!

Although he wasn't my favorite(Elliot is) he was one of my top two and I am dumbfounded that he was voted off.Such a powerful performer and great vocals. What a waste. I think Kat had a poor performance and should have been voted off and Taylor is a nice guy but not as good vocally.Good luck Chris I am certain that u will have an awesome career.

There's no doubt in my mind that Idol MUST be fixed for their chosen ones to win. Chris Daughtry was, by far, the best of the bunch and will prove it when he makes his own cds and outsells all of them! I am an 'over-the-hill' watcher who spotted Chris and picked him as a finalist when they were narrowing down to 24 contestants. Chris, you got plenty of exposure by this show and when your contract is up, get out there and make YOUR brand of great music. You have a long and rewarding career ahead of you. The best to you and your family. You will always be MY family's American Idol!!!

Chris,

You are the real american idol, so there isn't a need for me to watch anymore. On the american idol site boards, alot of your fans could not get through because of busy signals, no longer in service messages, and we are having technical difficulties messages. I believe something went wrong with the phone lines that night, because everyone is still in shock. I guess my Tuesday and Wednesday nights are free now. You will be missed.!

There is no need to watch American Idol anymore. He was the only reason any of us were watching. The final three do not have star quality like he does and will not have the success that he would have or i guess i should say will. This was the biggest shock and disappointment that has ever been on reality tv. This may be a blessing in disquise for Chris because now he can go on to be the lead singer for Fuel or another famous rock band rather than touring around doing piddly american idol stuff......... he will be promoted by someone, anyone that is smart and he will have great success. I wish he wouldn't even do the american idol tour and get started on his career........ I SAY WE BOYCOTT THE SHOW AND LET THE VIEWER RATINGS DROP TO NOTHING.

Chris definitely deserved to win AI. I was in shock when Ryan said goodbye but we all know that Chris is an amazing singer and will make it on his own -- he doesn't need AI! I am personally boycotting the show because I now know that it is fixed ... look at who is left and compare them to Chris -- by far, no comparison! I am outraged and dumbfounded, but I pray for Chris and anxiously await to buy his CD!!!! :-)

I agree with Jersey beyond a doubt. It is absolutely devastating, choking back the tears as I type now. All along I have said that "my boyfriend" ( haha) deserves to win and has just straight up "got it" and it is true, he just has it, I bet he was blowing people away when he was 3 singing "twinkle little star!!!"

The problem that has occured with this stupid show is that America's majority has become to think ( or bebrainwashed) into believing that the Clay Aiken's and the Kelly Clarkson's are the only type of persona nd type of genre deserving of winning and being title American Idols. Now, dont jump on me becuase I mentioned Kelly, we all know she can sing and she has the performance aspect, however, my point is not negative towards her, rather than to point out that America's majority has always favored the girly girl and the boy band singers. Its the unfortunate truth. For crying out loud, ROCK HAS ALWAYS BEEN BASHED BY THE MAJORITY. If you ask me to have the Idol's do Elvis was pretty contradicting- though he is an American HERO in the way of music, he himself and his music caused all kinds of controversy when he started. It is sad, but true. Simon Cowell proved my point when Chris did Creed's song "What If" He specifically said he thought it was too much and "You wouldnt see Creed on this show" UMMM excuse me WHY NOT???? Since when is American Idol for only certain Genres of music????? My whole point to this is that Chris unfortunately got the raw deal and was just another victim of the American Majority and their ignorance. If he had presented himself from the beginning as a soul/jazz ect performer and never showed the Rocker side, I would bet America would have voted differently. Its pathetic, but we who know what we like, us FELLOW ROCKERS, will Rock on with Chris, as I have been doing from day one and will be right there to buy that forst album, because it will happen, and ya know what ELLIOT AND TAYLOR- HIS CD COVER IS GOING TO BE A HELL OF A LOT MORE SEXY THAN YOURS!!! BY FAR.
I love you Chris, you got it and we knew it from day one- adding the little prank of hiding the "golden ticket" under your sexy hat made it all the better! You cant get any better than A Sexy Rocker with a Kick ** voice that has a humerous personality, how lucky is his wife???!!!! CONGRATS TO YOUR SUCCESS AND DONT WORRY, YOU WILL MAKE THAT MILLION DOLLARS 100 TIME OVER! The Chris Daughtry reign continues.........

I always watch American Idol and have NEVER been so blown away by anyone as I am by Chris Daughtry! I've always loved a very specific type of rocker voice (i.e. Nickleback, Puddle of Mud, Alice in Chains, etc...) and Chris is on the level of every one of those artists! My husband and I both watched this years show just for Chris, and now really don't have an interest in watching it this yr since he was surprisingly voted off last night! We will look forward to his future endeavors, as it's a GIVEN that he'll be a superstar!! We'll be looking for his 1st cd, and will be there for his 1st concert here in Palm Beach, FL! We will be definite fans of Chris from now on!!!

I have watched the last 3 American Idol seasons all the way through to the end. But not this time. I'm done. This can't possibly be for real. Even Katherine McPhee recognized she was the one who should have gone last night! She even forgot lyrics! Chris clearly should have won, and there is no one left who is interesting. Who cares who wins now?

I was devestated! I will not watch anymore and I am embarassed that this is how AI is going to end up. I have been a Chris fan since seeing him in the auditions and was completely relieved and excited the second I heard him open his mouth. He will be bigger and better that all three of the others put together!!! I cant wait to see what is next for Chris because the others have to feel great that they have ruined this show for many. I pray that the ratings go down by a ton. Chris is beautiful, talented, bald and stylish! The complete Package:) I love you Chris and cant wait to see you again!!

Are we to believe that "America's vote" was to let Chris go? Come on, get real. It's May Sweeps, don't tell me that Fox didn't have something to do with the "vote." Not to worry though, we will be seeing a lot more of Chris in the future.

Very Disappointing... Chris is by far the best, and I had him picked from day one. I think Kathryn is great too, but overall quality, commercial appeal, stand-up guy, facing adversity, putting his time in, and doing the right thing - Chris has it hands down.

At the end of the day, it's a bump in the road to a great career. I know it's got to be disappointing, but he's on his way regardless. Best of luck Chris, and keep on rocking out!!!

Chris' loss was very disappointing to say the least, but he has had a great amount of exposure on Idol that should translate to a big recording and performing career. From the comments I've read here, his popularity spans many age groups. I'm 55 and didn't really watch Idol until I stumbled across Chris performing one night, early on. His performances made me want to watch every week.

Think of all the "singer/performers" out there that are popular but can't sing to save their life when performing live. I just hope Chris gets hooked up with the right people, because the world is waiting patiently for his first CD.

Chris Daughtry Voted Off 'Idol' But Won't Go Home a Loser
May 11, 2006

Studdly rocker Chris Daughtry got the “Idol” boot on Wednesday night, after being deemed the odd-on favorite winner for this installment of the hit FOX reality competition.

While Chris won’t walk away a winner on “American Idol,” his dreams of rocking out forever will still come true.

On Thursday’s “Extra,” Daughtry will get an offer to front a famous band. The surprise will unfold on the “Extra” set, as the band members will appear to make the offer.

And “Extra” can promise, this is an offer that simply can’t be refused! See who wouldn’t let the rocker go home empty-handed!

American Idol sucks now that Chris is off the show. That is crap! I am Chris' biggest fan. I know that there is something much larger for him in his furture. Good luck Chris I was voting for you! I've watched this since the first episode and ever since I saw Chris for the first time, I knew he was going to make it big, if he was on American Idol or not. I would love to meet him! To all the Chris fans out there this F'n sucks! Chris your hot!! He does look like Vin Diesel, but I think that he is so much hotter!

You're exceedingly talented!

I just recently started watching the show. I watched the first year and then as talent seemed to lack, I stopped watching. However, I was watching the auditions purely for the "funny moments" and fell in love with Chris's talent the moment he opened his mouth. As a few have said, I will not watch Idol anymore. What a disgrace! Chris is my American Idol! I hope he goes out there, gets a deal, and rocks the socks off whoever wins this year! Good luck Chris!

Sad that judges push someone without the "it factor" such as Elliot, and shove the guy who will be huge away. Tsk Tsk to the AI judges swaying the voters in order to keep the pity party going for Elliot. And honestly Paula, crying over Elliott? I agree that he has outstanding vocals, but honestly, he is NOT the guy I want to pay to see in concert. Give me a break America, the Tony Bennett era is over. And judges, let's talk about cruise ship entertainment. Elliot would rock that boat! AI needs to accept the concept that they should promote entertainers as well as good vocalists, and then they would have a show. Give someone like Chris a guitar, and see what he's really capable of.

As for everyone who does not like Taylor, give him a break. He is tons more exciting than Elliot, and has more entertainment qualities whether a judge such as Simon likes it or not. Taylor is not the reason Chris is gone, the judges and their little game are. It disgusts me, and I am seriously considering not watching anymore after this season. The same thing happened with Ruben Studdard. He has the "it factor" of a rock.

Anonymous said...

I agree with all who are no longer going to watch the show. It is obvious that the show is fixed....there is no way that Chris should have been voted off before the others. He is much more talented than the rest of them. No more American Idol for me!

IMPORTANT!!!!

We need to figure out a way to really get the owrd out there about the phone lines. I thought it was my phone that night, I can notbelieve howmany comments I have read all over the internet about it. Thouhgmany say it is us fans looking for an excuse for a "do over" I really believe there was a problem. It all just doesnt add up otherwise, it is by far the biggest shock. There is no way America voted him off, the only other thing I can think of is maybe AI had to rig a deal with him due to the I WALK THE LINE controversy- not many know this, but the Senate is persuing this against Chris, maybe it came down to a conflict of interest type liability thing, maybe AI said they would "bail" him/help him out but that he needed to leave the show.....??? Any others have thoughts on this?? PLEASE email me......ROCKINDAUGHTRY@VERIZON.NET (not in all caps) THANKS!!!

While I was probably the first to declare my boycotting of AI, I have to stop and wonder what I will be missing in future seasons. I definately won't continue watching this season~there isn't any reason to now~but had I taken the boycotting thing to heart in seasons past I would have missed Chris' journey. AI is just the beginning for Chris and I can now say I was there for it. Thanks Chris for sharing your wonderful voice with all of us. Rock on dude!!!

Hello Chris,

Each week right afer you perform, I am already looking foward to your next performance. Looking forward to your performaces each week helped me to get through the weeks. I have two children ages 3 and 5 and my husband works out of town Mon-Thur. Your family values, the apparent love you have for your wife, the fact that you love the same kind of music I do, and your amazing talent-made me an instant fan. I'm bummed you won't be on AI anymore! I have to confess I shed some tears when Seacrest announced the news.

I watched season 1-I knew Kelly had something special-I voted for her all the way to the end. Kelly rocks! But then the 2nd and 3rd seasons didn't bring me anything to feel excited about. Last year I was bummed when Bo Bice lost so I was so glad when you made the top 24. I knew right away you would go straight to the top. Your performances are so intense. You have a way of drawing the fans right in-making them feel with the same emotions that you putting into the song-its extraodinary really. Your performaces helped me feel less lonely when my husband is gone during the week. I'll miss seeing you on AI but look foward to your first record-from which ever path you choose to go on. Your fans will follow you-whatever you decide to do. You had fans of all ages watching each week-people tuned into AI for the first time because of you-people have now banned AI because of you. You are an amazing star and deserve the best. All the best to you and your beautiful family.

We are insanely jealous of your wife and believe she is the luckiest woman to walk the face of this earth:). We LOVE your Absent Element songs (our fav. is Keep Me Close) and have followed you from day one on American Idol. We've devoted our Tuesdays and Wednesdays anticipating your next songs because anything you sing is amazing. Hands down, you are the BEST singer I've ever heard...ever. Your talent goes far beyond American Idol, and regardless of being voted off, I still believe you belong nowhere else but in the spotlight. I can't wait to buy your CD!!! Chris--You've got what we women call the 'total package'- good looks, talent, a warm spirit, a kind heart and even more good looks :) WE LOVE YOU DAUGHTRY!!! See ya in Tampa, FL when you come on tour. Look for us, Katie and Lisa-- DEFINITLY you're two biggest fans :) ::wink::

We shared everyone's (even Chris') "shock" at Chris being voted off, and like so many others, interest in continuing to watch the show has most certainly dwindled. That being said, I also think a couple of other factors are significant when analyzing just how Chris could have received the lowest # of votes. 1st, the voting system in place left a lot to be desired. Many are unable to desperately dial a phone for 2 hours trying to get through to place a vote. It's unrealistic to expect, which of course results in a misrepresentation of "Americas true choice for the idol".
Secondly, IMHO, the show ran too long. I think interest may have started to wax and wane a couple of shows prior to Chris' departure. Third, while Chris may be a rocker at heart, I think he may have lost votes by showing that side of his talents a little too much for this competition. Appealing to the "larger" masses (at least considering the audience profile for this show) may have been better served with a more mellow rock.
Chris has been Blessed, as he is an extremely talented singer/performer with obvious stage presence, and we wish him every success in the future!

Chris, your voice is truly amazing! I've always been a fan of some of the singers that have graced the American Idol stage, but you, by far, blew all the others, from every other season, completely out of the water!!!

Everything happens for a reason. Consider leaving AI a blessing. They suck their idols into contracts that I wouldn't wish on anyone.

You have COUNTLESS possibilities in front of you for the taking. No matter where you go, what band you sing with, you will have a large mass of followers behind you... waiting to purchase a cd or attend a concert.

You've truly blessed the nation, and even world with your beautiful vocal chords.

Can't wait to be the first in line to buy ANY album with your voice on it!!!

Oh, and on as a side note, if you ever doubt that you've reached MANY different groups and ages of people... just know that you had my 75 year old grandpa rocking in his chair and he's insisting that I get him a cd with you on it the moment it comes out!

Anonymous said...

I can't even begin to express how disappointed I am that Chris was voted off. I thought for sure he'd take the whole competition. It was almost like it was a joke when it happened. I just can't seem to accept it and I refuse to believe that any of the remaining 3 even hold a candle next to chris. actually, hes so far out of this competitions league and he will have so many more bigger and better oppurtunities. I just hope he does something really soon because I don't know how much longer i can wait! I wish him the best of luck and I hope he knows how talented, moving, and extraordinary he is.

Anonymous said...

Boy oh Boy! I guess we all knew when Chris was allegedly "voted" off, that something must be awry. Now after watching last night's show, it confirms our suspicions. While I don't like to bad mouth anyone, there's simply nothing I can think of to justify "Taylor Hicks" still being on the show. American Idol??? Taylor? but not Chris? Sure changes the appeal and credibility of the show. Very disappointing!

Anonymous said...

In the long run it will help Chris' career. He doesn't have to give more than half his royalties to AI.
And look at the track record of some of the AI winners and runners up, what are they doing now? Not so hot now are they?

Chris,

Damn, I can't believe how much I miss you being on that freakin stupid show. This week is the final, and I couldn't care less who wins. But, if that fruit loop says "soul patrol" one more time, I will lose it. No one knows what that even means.

My husband is also a service advisor and I keep asking him why he can't sing like that (just kidding him).

Anyhow, you were a joy to watch each week. Your voice is just wonderful. I can't wait to see what you do next. Hurry!

Dear Chris,
You said that you actually read this stuff, so here it goes. I think that you are amazing. An extremely talented individual that was ripped off. I think that you can make it big, and I will be the first in line to buy your CD (whenever you decide to make one). I think the thing with Fuel might be a great ride for you. You have the flare that can make it big. When I saw you on Idol, my heart skipped a beat, my husband is also an amazing singer, you sound very much alike, he is crushed that you might be getting his ideal gig. He also hates how much I adore you and your talent. Keep on reaching for the stars, you will eventually get the moon. Lots of Love and prayers Jen Atlanta, GA P.S. your wife is a lucky woman!

I was very disappointed in the decision to remove Chris from the competition, but I think he will find bigger and better things from here. He has the talent, the looks, and the heart based on what I have seen. I would be surprised if he didn't already have a contract before he walked off the stage in the beginning. American Idol is fixed in my opinion. Chris - keep working hard, it will absolutely pay off for you in the end and you definately have the fan base for success! Just keep a level head; nothing/noone is worth risking family! Love ya, Dawn - Iowa

Chris is so awesome!!!!! He has got such a crystal clear, distinct voice that sends shivers down my spine. He is not only very talented but he's got the personality and the whole package that is needed to be a big success. I wanted to cry when he got voted off but by the next day, I knew it was actually a blessing in disguise as he is way too good for American Idol. He will not be tied to any American Idol contracts and can do much bigger and better things that will be beyond all of our wildest imaginations. He already has a great fan base who will follow everything he does from here on. I'm a single mom with 3 boys and love the way he talks about his wife and how he accepted his wife's two children as his own. He seems like a great guy who has his priorities straight and I'd like to know where to find someone just like him!!!! Any brothers or friends like you Chris?
