So Nice, that Bo Bice

Stew and Bo Bice
Having not really watched American Idol last season, I held no opinion of runner-up and fan-favorite Bo Bice. But that changed two weeks ago in Hollywood, when the southern-fried hippie did me a solid. Shannon Smith and I were scrambling to find a guest for a last minute satellite shot when the affable performer wandered up and chatted at length without even a cue. Impressed by his on-camera etiquette, I popped off a great still-shot of the singer and made a mental note to pay him some respect on-line. But later that evening, while fumbling with my Fuji in the dark, I mistakenly deleted the picture. Honestly, I was just trying to flush a shot of that lecherous boob Constantine when I fat-fingered the wrong button. Oh well, chalk up that loss to jet-lag, jittery digits and Jim Beam.

So imagine the fun today when I tore my attention away from a scintillating report on lottery tickets to stalk the very vocalist as he dropped in on the noon news. Working the local press circuit in support of his new release, Bo ambled mannerly through yet another building filled with excited strangers. Before he and his buds boot-scooted out the door, the Birmingham rock singer turned American Idol poster boy yucked it up with the talking hair-do's, plugged his new CD and even did a little green-screen weather schtick. This, is one cool cat. Somewhat humbled by his near-coronation as last year's Idol, Bo Bice seems to aggressively appreciate his fans. Either that or someone taught him a long time ago how to work a room. During his brief stop at El Ocho, the pony-tailed vocalist smiled for a hundred photos, be it with hyped-up account executives, swooning interns or just a lowly lenslinger who knows good blog-fodder when he sees it.

" So this isn't become an Idol blog, huh?"

Oof! That hurts a little, though I cannot deny I've been spreading the Idol around a little thick lately. Truthfully, I'm just blogging what's in front of me while I pack everything I own into collapsible cardboard. Once I'm ensconsed in my new lair, I plan to turn back to more weighty fare, as well as get crackin' on the book proposal again. Until then, please bear with me...

I'm glad you got to experience what so many people already know. Bo is just a great guy. Oh yeah, he can sing too! If you ever get the chance to see him and his band SugarMoney perform you will not be disappointed. These guys put on a great show.

Thank you for sharing those Bo Bice comments and that photograph. He's so down to earth and geniune and funny. I know that many were expecting RCA to let Bo put out a more southern rock cd, but I guess they need a hit album and rock radio won't really play classic or southern rock from someone who was on AI...so they had to go more pop rock to really get the mainstream sales. He did manage to get three of his own songs on the dual disc version of his cd though.

I never watched American Idol in the past, but I watched a couple of his performances and loved his voice. I guess there are some credibility issues with him having been on the show, but just in the last few months, so many artists have said nice things about him. Besides getting to perform at Bonnaroo with Trey Anastasio and Galactic, Willie Nelson has invited him to do a song onstage and he's received the Jim Croce Music Award. He's now friends with Scott Ian of Anthrax and so on. This guy has a great energy and he loves music and I hope he'll be successful enough to continue to do what he loves.

Hi lenslinger. Thanks for your blog on Bo. You have captured the enigma that is Bo Bice: such a talented yet down-to-earth guy who REALLY appreciates his fans. The guy has no airs at all considering the success he's been reaping and the adulation of so many of his fans around the world.

I'm from Asia and I've joined the Bo wagon more than a year ago - and tremendously enjoying this ride. I'm in it for the long haul!

Bo's music video has been on MTV's TRL for more than 2 weeks now. So are able to watch his video here in my country. His song is also being played in the radio stations here in my country.

We look forward to other future singles and to his next album, and hopefully, a concert here in Asia.
